In this interview Montana Supreme Court Chief Justive, Jean Allen Turnage discusses his family history; growing up in St. Ignatius; entering the Army Air Forces in 1944; his education at the University of Montana, from pre-law through law school; working of the Montana State Highway Department while he attended school; early work as a defense attorney in Polson area for Lloyd Wallace; election and work as Lake County Attorney from 1952 until 1962; serving in Montana State Legislature from 1962 until 1984; the challenges faced by the legislature following the 1972 Constitutional Convention; his beliefs concerning open meetings; his decision and strategy in running for the Montana Supreme Court in 1984; and some of the challenges of serving on the Supreme Court.
